FIFTY THOUSAND FEET

I was busy scrambling through the podcast list, after receiving a phone call that totally shattered me, I was officially having an extremely bad day, I then found a conveniently titled podcast by Robin Sharma, whom I was busy reading his book (5am club) named, “How to handle a bad day”. As I was listening, he mentioned the 5 P`s of turning a bad day into an epic and valuable day. The first one was “Perspective”, it is the only word that stuck to my mind amidst all the other words.

I will go back to the podcast later, but now I want to take you back to my previous blog were I highlighted the fact that, the challenges that we go through, do not last forever, change will come and we should always be ready having the right mindset to move with the change. It got me further thinking about how important our mindsets are towards all the challenges we face, how we view a challenge or hard situation that is before us is the thin line between success and failure.

Fear is a huge drawback to the progression of every human being on the planet, when any difficult situation comes through, not only does it bring pain but also thoughts of, if I fail at this, what will people say and how will they view me if indeed this situation will translate to a defeat for me.

When Robin was busy explaining the word perspective, he gave an analogy that was practical in a sense that, when one is having a bad day we should take the mental and emotional aspects of us on a journey that will make us reach 50 000ft above what we are facing at that moment, and look for anything, no matter how miniscule it may seem, which is the positive that happened to us, either on that day or any other day before so that we can shift our focus to it. The more we focus on the good that has happened and that which is to happen to us, the more we become immune to the constant pain we feel when challenges come along our way.

With regular practice and extreme discipline, we will always display a positive attitude about life in general, this will propel our walk with Jesus to great heights, as he doesn’t it like when one always worries and is negative about everything. Having a positive mindset when going through hail and high water is difficult, irrational and no normal person can pull it through, it is up to us to make sure that we are in control of our minds so that whatever comes our way will not defeat us, we should exhibit superhuman qualities in order to maintain a positive attitude livelihood without failure, and it highly possible to do so.

Whilst having a conversation with a friend of mine earlier, I realised no matter how strong or ultra-positive we are on a daily basis, a moment of weakness will come and what should happen is that it must only be for a moment or a season, after that we should come back to the place where we used to be, 50 000ft above all the challenges we face, displaying a positive mindset when riding this rollercoaster called life.
